Hortense and her doll!

Hortense was the sweet little girl who showed up this week in the afternoon with her mom for a painting session. She was great, and was very comfortable with Dawu and the whole painting process. Dawu began with smoothing out the base paint on to the gesso canvas with her hands and feet, and them moved her to using different brushes to create a variety of effects and textures. After she was finished, she picked up her dolly and asked to have Dawu paint her feet in silver, then proceeded to 'paint' with her doll's feet on the canvas, just as Dawu had done with her! It was so cute. Standing beside her canvas at the end after 2 hours of straight painting, Hortense was more than proud!

Colbert's Second Painting Workshop - gifts for Grandparents!

Colbert decided to come back and do some more painting, this time some minis for his two grandfathers, making two outstanding works to give as gifts! It was cool to see this little guy approach the two with the same enthusiasm as with the big one a few weeks earlier.

Dawu directed him in making two in two very different styles, not to mention use of color and brush techniques. Although both were equally successful, everyone seemed to eye the one on the left more than the one on the right. We hope to see Colbert again soon, as he also played very well with our daughter, Hannah. Happy painting, Colbert!

Nathan's 4th Birthday surprise!

What a great way to spend the morning of April 5, 2009 for Nathan and his family, as it was his 4th birthday exactly! He was a very keen painter, and within the workshop time finished a medium 85cm x 120 cm and a mini painting for his grandma in Hawaii! She will be overjoyed, I can bet. We were impressed with his brush stroke control and his confidence in approaching painting like this for the very first time - hands and feet and all!

On February 21, 2009, Natty and Sassy Key came to the Beijing Color Studio to paint with Dawu, accompanied by their parents. It was a fabulous, mind opening/mind enriching experience for all of us!

The kids together painted for over 3 hours, producing two large abstract paintings, which were later hung in their living room and bedroom back home.

THE GIFT of a LIFETIME: Dawu, a talented and emerging Chinese contemporary artist, is available for half-day painting workshops at his Beijing studio where he will 'direct' your child - from start to finish - in creating a full size canvas. Come paint with us in a comfortable, stress free, fun filled 'art' learning environment - a lasting impression that can be hung on your wall!

Time with Dawu can be made for individuals, families, or groups and is the perfect way to spend a day with family, celebrate a child's birthday, or say 'goodbye' with event and gift!

A Beijing Color Studio workshop booking includes:
- 2.5 hours min painting w/Dawu (add 300 RMB each additional hour)
- prepared canvas (according to the size(s) you select)
- artist's expertise, guidance, direction (additional child on a med or large size, add 500 RMB/child)
- all other materials (acrylic paints, brushes, tools, etc)
- fnished/mounted/ready to hang canvas(s) (quality wooden framing available on request for an extra cost)
- light refreshments
- delivery of finished work(s)
